We are conscious of the impact the fashion industry has on the environment, not just in production but during the garment's lifecycle. A few simple changes can save energy, reduce impact and prolong the life of your clothes, with the added bonus of saving you money.
We recommend the following:
• Check care instructions and separate deep and light colours to avoid cross staining.
• Wash your clothes less often, jeans and clothes not worn next to the skin do not need to be washed after every wear.
• Close fastenings to avoid damage.
• Turn clothes inside out to help maintain colour and appearance.
• Wash a full, not part machine load as it uses the same amount of energy.
• We recommend a 30° wash to be gentle on your clothes, reduce fibre shedding and save energy. If hand washing, the water should feel cool.
• Use an eco or quick wash setting to save energy and reduce your bills.
• Laundry detergents can pollute the water in our rivers and oceans, try an eco-friendly version.
• There are different detergents for colours and whites so choose the best one to maintain appearance.
• Use a Guppyfriend washing bag, proven to stop microplastic pollution. Microplastics are a threat to aquatic life and can in turn enter our food chain.
• Gently shake clothes out after washing to reduce creasing and lessen the need for ironing, saving time and energy.
• Reshape jersey and knitted garments to maintain the fit.
• Line dry for natural freshness and avoid tumble drying which is harsh on clothes and high energy usage.
• Store clothes carefully on suitable hangers. Fold tee shirts and knitwear to avoid distortion.
• When clothing is worn or damaged, repair, upcycle or recycle.
• If you no longer love an item then pass it on, resell or donate to charity.
